2020-2021 Reentry Plan

We look forward to welcoming students back to school as we return to in-person classes for fall 2020. Major dates on the calendar will remain similar to previous years. School will be held on its normal schedule Monday through Friday. The school day will begin and end at its normal time, including early and late stay programs. We are thankful that we are not dependent on bus transportation for students, allowing us to retain this normal school schedule.
 
In anticipation of the start of the school year, we want to share with you some of the ways we are preparing our school environment to maintain the health and safety of our students, your family, and our employees.
 
As we proceed, we want to do so in a way that obeys God’s greatest commands, to love God and to love others (Matt. 22:37–40). The details are based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the North Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, the North Carolina Department of Education, local health professionals and officials, BCA’s administration, teachers, parents and the Re-Entry Task Force. Special thanks goes to the BCA School Board made up of eight individuals (2 physicians) for working overtime to approve this Re-Entry Plan.
The information around us is changing daily, and we will do our best to keep you current with needed changes and updates to our plan. We are committed to responding to new data so that we can provide a safe and healthy learning environment throughout the school year.
 
Campus Safety
 
To minimize exposure and minimize the spread of illness, we plan to:
Use physical distancing when possible.
 Spreading apart seating in classrooms and assemblies
 Moving classes and assemblies to larger spaces
 Wearing mask in hallways
 Modifying cafeteria seating
 
Modify certain activities, where appropriate
 Fine arts classes/groups
 Athletics program
 Emergency drills
 
Encourage good hygiene by
 Reminding students regularly about good personal hygiene habits
 Asking parents to provide hand sanitizer for student use while at school. In the elementary division, the teachers will manage its use; in the secondary division, students will use it as needed.
 
Enhance our cleaning procedures with
 A focus on high-touch areas
 Increased cleaning protocols in classrooms
 UV sanitizers used in large group rooms
 
Limit contact with parents and guests at school
 School buildings: parents and guests visit school office only; office personnel will assist with individual needs related to the classroom
 Lunch and chapels: students and staff only
 School events: evaluated and modified on a case-by-case basis, i.e. Grandparents’ Day has been canceled
 
Limit exposure to other students or staff who may be ill by
 Maintaining daily student wellness checks before and during the school day
 Asking parents to check their student’s temperature and symptoms daily, keeping home a student who is symptomatic
 Contacting parents if their student becomes symptomatic while at school
 Asking parents to seek medical advice and take appropriate action if their student shows signs of symptoms or has been in close contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19
 Asking staff to daily check their own temperature and symptoms and to stay home if they are symptomatic
 Maintaining cohorts of students where possible, avoiding unnecessary exposure to larger groups
 Communicating appropriately to parents if their student is believed to have been exposed to illness at school
 Advising parents on a case-by-case basis
 
Face coverings
 We are carefully watching health requirements and currently do not plan to require face coverings as a general requirement. Face coverings are required in the hallways. For this reason, we will ask students and staff to have their own face covering at school for use should the need arise.
 We will support any parent who wants their student to wear a face covering. Personal choices concerning face coverings will be respected and supported.
 
Support
When a necessary precaution causes a significant difficulty for those affected, we plan to provide alternate solutions where possible and suitable.
 School events (evaluated on a case-by-case basis)
 Providing different opportunities (email and video) when a face-to-face event is cancelled (e.g. Parent Orientation, parent-teacher conferences)
 Student learning (if an extended absence is required)
 BCA is unable to provide distance-learning lessons while conducting traditional in-class instruction.
 
However, the administration will work with teachers to provide appropriate homework assignments and/or other learning materials for students (similar to the kind of support that was given in previous school years).
 Should local or state governmental agencies require us to suspend in-person classes; we will transition to online instruction. We are committed to continuing to provide high-quality academic instruction regardless of the method of delivery.
 
Agreement of Understanding
Our online check-in routinely includes a trip permission form and a release for emergency medical care, as well as other permissions. This year it will also include an agreement of understanding and liability regarding COVID-19 that parents will need to sign before their child returns to school.
The parent for each child will submit a parent screening and attestation form daily (no fever, no symptoms, etc…).
